Seasons/Songs for our winter unit

We talked about the four seasons and the kids helped figure out what kinds of trees, clothes and weather would happen in each season.
Here is our seasons song.
Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
There are seasons four in all
Look outside and you will see
Just what season it will be.

See if your child can sing you the song and tell you what season it is.

Here are a few other songs we sang this week.

What to wear?
(She'll be comin' around the mountain)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) x2
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)

Additional verses
two warm boots (stomp)
one warm hat (pat)
one warm jacket (zip)

This was a great song about winter fun and the days of the week.

Think Snow!
(Here we go round the Mulberry Bush)
What shall we do in wintertime,
In wintertime, in wintertime?
What shall we do in wintertime
On (Monday) when it's snowing?

We'll build a snowman round and fat,
Round and fat, round and fat!
We'll build a snowman round and fat
On (Monday) when it's snowing!

Tuesday, take a sled ride down a hill
Wednesday, find some food to feed the birds
Thursday, skate around a frozen pond
Friday, pack some snowballs round and tight
Saturday, make some angels in the snow
Sunday, build a snow fort in the yard

What to wear?

Here is a song we did today!
What to wear?
(tune: She'll be comin' round the mountain)

I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)

Additional verses- two warm boots (stomp-stomp)
one warm hat (pat-pat)
one warm jacket (zip-zip)

We read the book, "Missing Mittens" by Stuart J. Murphy. Farmer Bill is missing a mitten, leaving him with "one" odd mitten instead of an "even" two. His cow is also missing one of her four mittens, leaving her with an odd three. His chickens and horses have the same problem. Finally, they discover the thief, recover their mittens and dry them by the fire. This story was a great introduction about odd and even and pairs.

After we read our story, we had to find our pair of mittens. Each child got a colored mitten (as your child what color they had) and they had to find their pair (partner) that had the same color they had. After they found their pair, they told everyone what color they had.

Itsy Bitsy Snowflake

We participated in this fun action song during group time today! Each child got their own snowflake to follow the actions with. If you'd like to do this at home you could make your own snowflake and tape or staple it to a popsicle stick and sing away! The kids really enjoyed this song and picked up on it quickly.

Itsy-Bitsy Snowflake
(sung to the tune of "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider")

The itsy-bitsy snowflake Hold up the puppet.
Fell down from the sky. Move puppet as if it's falling.
It landed on my nose Touch puppet to nose.
And it bounced upon my eye. Place puppet in front of eye.
It slid down to my chin Slide puppet down to chin.
And it landed on my tongue. Place puppet in front of tongue.
Then it melted all away. Hide the puppet behind your back.
My snowflake song is done! Take a bow.

Even if you don't make your own snowflake puppet, you can still sing this song with your child. ENJOY!!

Sorry for the double picture, I haven't figured out how to take pics off.

Winter Songs

Here are some of the other songs/fingerplays that we are singing for our Winter unit:

Snow
Snow is on the housetop.
Snow is on the ground.
Snow is on the mountain.
Snow is all around.

We will build a snowman
with a carrot nose.
Then get on our sled
and see how fast it goes.

5 Little Snowmen Fat
Five little snowmen fat
Each with a funny hat
Out came the sun and melted one
what a sad sight was that!
Down, down, down...

Four little snowmen fat
Each with a funny hat
Out came the sun and melted one
what a sad sight was that!
Down, down, down...

Three little snowmen fat...
Two little snowmen fat....
One little snowmen fat...

A Chubby Little Snowman

Here's a song we did this week for our Winter unit and some fun pictures to go with!

Here are the words:
A Chubby Little Snowman

A chubby little snowman
had a carrot nose
Along came a bunny
and what do you suppose?

That hungry little bunny
looking for some lunch
at that snowman's carrot nose,
NIBBLE, NIBBLE, CRUNCH!!

Everyone got to be either the bunny or the snowman; ask your child which they were?
