What to wear?

Here is a song we did today!
What to wear?
(tune: She'll be comin' round the mountain)

I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens)
I'll be wearing (two warm mittens) when it snows (clap-clap)

Additional verses- two warm boots (stomp-stomp)
one warm hat (pat-pat)
one warm jacket (zip-zip)

We read the book, "Missing Mittens" by Stuart J. Murphy. Farmer Bill is missing a mitten, leaving him with "one" odd mitten instead of an "even" two. His cow is also missing one of her four mittens, leaving her with an odd three. His chickens and horses have the same problem. Finally, they discover the thief, recover their mittens and dry them by the fire. This story was a great introduction about odd and even and pairs.

After we read our story, we had to find our pair of mittens. Each child got a colored mitten (as your child what color they had) and they had to find their pair (partner) that had the same color they had. After they found their pair, they told everyone what color they had.

  1. What a nice set of experiences for your students -- reading a story, doing an activity, and creating a song -- all reinforcing a math concept. I'm delighted to see my book being used in this way. Bravo! Stuart
